
BRITISH RECORDS FALL AT TOLLYMORE.
3 British Archery records were broken at Tollymore Forest at the weekend all
by Ballyvally’s up and coming junior archers! Traditional girl Shannon
Russell-Cowan now shooting from the senior blue pegs although only 12 years
shot 139 [one day] and 256 [two day] to claim records. Andrew Sneddon shooting
boys compound barebow from the senior blue pegs although only 11 hit 159 to
give him the record while top freestyle archer Mark Nesbitt shooting now from
senior red pegs shot 269[one day] and 537 [two day] to claim his records.
A further 3 Northern Ireland records were also claimed by Ashley Russell –Cowan
[162 / 290], Ewan Lynas [106 / 184] and Peter Mulligan [321 / 599]Altogether
a good day for the club.
ENGLISH ARCHER COMES TOP IN LADIES BAREBOW:
Jane Rees top British Lady Barebow topped that class at the Tollymore with
an excellent 528 over both days. Bronagh Campbell from Ballyvally was second.
In the junior barebow class Jane’s daughter also came first in the junior
girls barebow class. Ballyvally’s Kerry Sneddon was leading the girls
barebow class after the first day but couldn’t maintain her lead over
the second day. Ashley Russell-Cowan won the ladies traditional class on her
way to breaking a Northern Ireland record while her daughter Shannon broke
a British record. It was certainly a family day in the ladies section!
TOUGH IN GENTS BAREBOW.
With almost an international cast mens barebow was a tight competition. The
course in Tollymore Forest was very difficult with lots of slope shots making
it difficult to gauge the distance and the angles. Rohan O’Duill from
Wicklow was in the lead by two points after day one but it proved to be not
enough as Gilbert McClelland from Banbridge had a great second day shooting
291 to come in first. Philip Fitzpatrick from Ballyvally came third while
Kris Klonowski and Joe Wybraniec from Poland came 8th and 9th respectively.
Neil Gordon from Newrtwonards won the gents compound barebow with 570.. In
the boys compound barebow Andrew Sneddon set anew British record of 159 in
boys u12 class
PETER MULLIGAN BREAKS N.I. RECORD.
Peter Mulligan now shooting freestyle successfully held off the southern challenge
in this section shooting 599 over the two days to come first and break a record
Alan Convery was second and Niall Doyle from Wicklow 3rd . In the boys section
Mark Nesbitt now shooting senior red pegs shot 537 to break two British Record
the one day [269] andthe two day [537]
CUBS SHOOT WELL.
Ewan Lynas after a slow start eventually got the measure of the slopes and
ended up breaking a NI Record with 184 in boys traditional in the under 12
class.Ryan McCorry recently returned to outdoor archery had a good two days
and got gold with 326 over the two days in boys compound barebow while Claire
Hillen in girls compound barebow broke a NI Record in girls record with 178.
In the ladies beginners class Adel Lynas shooting 329 just pipped Valerie
Sleith [317] and MarionPatterson [294]
ROUND 8 OF BALLYVALLY LEAGUE.
With 272 archers now shooting in the indoor league based in Banbridge Leisure
Centre,Megan Quaile is in the lead with 20 points while close behind is Sarah
Toombs on 19 and Sam Cantley on 18. Snapping on the heels of the top three
are John Toombs [16] Taylor Masterson [16] Harry McDowell [15] Joel Reid[15]
Mark Hamilton [16]. The under 12 section is still,led by Morgan Russell-Cowan
on 20 but she is just ahead of ShannonGraham [19] Dean Hamilton [19] and Andrew
Sneddon [19]. On 18 points is Ewan Lynas while Chris Ryan , Vanessa Eakin
and Ronan Gribben are all on 17. The under 15 section is led by Shannon Russell-Cowan
on 22 just ahead of Zoe Liggett on 20 and Peter Lavery and William Heslip
both on 19. The top four are just clear of CiaraDunleavy [18]
In the under 18’s Bronagh Campbell is opening up a gap between herself
and the rest of the field. Bronagh is on 20 points while her nearest rivals
are on 19 [Adam Wilson] and 17 [Rian Morgan] . In the senior section Ashley
Russell-Cowan leads on 22 points in the ladies section with Bernie Scullion
and Maggie Quaile joint second on 17 points. In the gents section, there is
a three way tie with Gary Corbett, Rune Naeri and Terry Mlcolmson all on 19!
The genys section is very close with Peter Mulligan, Ken Quinn, George Hamilton
and Nigel Hamilton all close behind on 18!
NIAS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Next weekend sees Ballyvally Archery
Club host the N. I. Indoor championships for the second year. Saturday will
see the seniors copete over the whole day while Sunday sees the juniors shoot
it out for the Northern Ireland titles. The championships will be hosted in
Banbridge Leisure Centre which has excellent facilities for the event. Spectators
are welcome as there is an excellent viewing gallery behind the shooting line.With
over 80 entries from Ballyvally, the local club hopes to do well.
