
EASTER SCHOOL OF SPORT 30 YOUNG ARCHERS ENJOY THE SPORT.
This year the archery sessions at the Council sponsored Easter school of
Sport was booked out even quicker than usual! 30 lucky young people arrived
at Banbridge Leisure Centre on the Wednesday morning where coaches from
Ballyvally Archery Club had the equipment and targets all set up. Only one
from the long waiting list got a place on the shooting line.With three
mornings to fill, it was decided to use day bone for fun archery , day 2 for
Olympic archery and day 3 for Field Archery.All the styles of archery and
the different types of bows were described and shown as well as medieval
arrows used in warfare 500 years ago.
RALPH LAVERY GOES FOR THE GRAND SLAM!
After everyone had been sorted for suitable equipment and taught to shoot,
their accuracy was tested with a balloon bursting competition. The team of
Ralph Lavery, Rachel Crozier and Adam Wheeler won.All the badges were
presented by Gillian Hoare on the final morning.On the Thursday on the
olympic targets Ralph won with Sarah Hill in 2nd place and Matthew Duddy in
3rd...so far two awards for Ralph.In the distance shooting Fionnuala Loy won
with Ralph 2nd and Peter Lavery 3rd.3 awards for Ralph! On the Thuraday
morning shooting the National Animal round, Rory Woods won gold, Brett
Matthews was 2nd and Ralph crept into 3rd place. Coming to the last event
shooting the big brown bear, Ralph was going for the ''grand slam'' in other
words being placed in every event. Winning the last competition was Daniel
Duffin, 2nd Sidney Bradley, 3rd Mark Campbell, 4th Adam Wheeler, 5th Matthew
Duddy and 6th Ben Cosgrave...Ralph had hard luck and just was out of the
awards....however he did very well to be placed in 4 out of 5 competitions!
