MAID MARIONS ON THE INCREASE!
One of the biggest growth areas in Ballyvally archery club is to be seen in the numbers of girls and ladies taking up this ancient sport. 106 ladies of all ages have taken part in Ballyvally’s indoor leagues so far this 2008 year and many have also taken up the challenge of outdoor archery in the woods as well! Some have reched a very high standard and a number have already won N.I and GB titles.

JUNIOR EUROPA CUP.

Mark nesbitt is shooting this week in the Junior European Cup in Punta Umbria in Spain. The tournament runs from the 18th to the 25th May and a GB Team of 8 archers was selected to represent GB.Markis therefore in the top 8 in the UK in target archery and he is also in the top 4 in field archery. Quite an achievement for someone just 15 years of age.

INDOOR LEAGUE. ROUND 7
The shooting line was full on Wednesday night as Ballyvally archers shot in the 8th round of the club’s indoor league.That means there is only two more rounds to go to the finish of the Spring Indoor League and things are tight. The Wednesday night session is only one of 9 run by the club during the week as archery continues to prove attractive to all age groups and especially families. The rounds being shot are the FITA Field round [especially useful to those shooting outdoors for the current crop of championships] and the National Animal round which is preparing archers for the summer and Autumn outdoor shoots at loughbrickland. Leading the cub girls under 9 is Molly Stevenson with 16 points but close behind are Natasha Graham [15] and Emily Cantley [13] Meanwhile Roald Naeri leads the boys with 19 points but Rhys Walker has moved to 18 points just one point behind…can he catch him in the next two weeks?. Megan Quaile has just moved into a narrow lead in girls with 17 points with Morgan Russell-Cowan, Maisie Gibson and Lucy Stevenson just 2 points behind on 15 in the under 12 girls. In the under 12 boys Nathan Liggett is now the clear leader on 20 points as Ewan Lynas was in paris last week and missed his match. Ewan Lynas is now sharing joint 2nd place with Cameron Allison and Aaron nReid all on 17 points..Shannon Russell-Cowan is one point clear in the girls under 15 section but Chrissie Winson [17] and Christie Barr [15] are close behind. The boys section still has 3 in the lead namely Brett Mathews, Peter Lavery and Michael Ward all still on 17 points. Can they be separated in the next two matches?

MAGGIE ONLY ARCHER ON FULL POINTS!

Aftyer 7 matches there is only ONE archer undefeated and on full points and that is Maggie Quaile. With only two matches left can she complete the full league without dropping a point? Ciara Dunleavy leads the under 18 girls with 14 points and Michelle Crawford is 2nd on 12 points. Adam Wilson leads the under 18 boys with 17 points followed by Martin Buggy on 14 points. In the ladies section and just waiting for Maggie to make a slip is Marion Patterson on 20 points and Jacqui Shilliday on 18 points. In the gents section, Nigel Hamilton slipped up last week and is on 19 poins but he now shares the lead with Robert Mathers also on 19. Close behind are Jim Curlett and Sean Scullion [both 17] and Philip Beckett, Damien lennon and Brian ward all on 16. It could be a very close finish.

OVER 50’S VETERANS’ LEAGUE;

The veterans league is about to reach the halfway stage and it is hotting up! Just in the lead is William Cochrane on 21 points but close behind are Billy Graham [20] Rita Gordon [19] Yvonne McKinley [19] Hazel Mulligan [18] Noel Cochrane [17] Brian Glenny [17] Robert McLorn [16]Sean McGivern [[15] Lilain walker [15] and Keith Jenkins and Hazel McCallister [both 14] It could not be any tighter!
